Valentines Day Thank You’s

Published by Sandy at 9:19 pm under Down's Syndrome, Parenthood, holidays

Wow, what a day!  Today, my boys are 8 years old.  On this day in 2000, I was in Dallas, Texas in Big Baylor and having triplets…  They were the only triplets in the hospital at the time.  The boys weighted 2lbs 13 oz, 3 lbs 1oz and 3lbs 12 oz.  They spent a whole 28 days in the NICU.  We were so lucky in so many ways.  However, they boys also had their own surprizes.  Triplets B & C were identical which I knew, but they were also born with Down’s Syndrome.  Imagine, the specialness of these two.  Not only to be identical and boys, but to have Down’s.  They were so small, and I didn’t even get to hold baby C for a number of days.  He was the size of a Barbie doll.

Through the years, the boys have done many crazy things and we have a number of wonderful Doctors and Specialists to thank for them even being alive.  First to Dr. Whitfield at Baylor, thank you for being the best in your field of NeoNatology.  Next thank you to Dr. Demeris Wright for being the best Cardiologist the boys or I could have wished for.  Next on the list is Dr. Gazetta, who at the time was chief of staff at Dallas Children’s for the surgeries you did on all three of my boys.  To Dr. Andy Gelfand, ok God, you pulled it off!! The boys not only survived crappy lungs, but being trached and vented and we learned to trust each other, Thank you.  To Dr. Mike Biavati, thanks for being the best ENT in the State of Texas and for sending us to even better ENT’s in Cincinati if thats possible for Alex’s surgeries.  To Dr. Nikido for your work on Paul’s Total AV Canal with Valves and coming in after surgery talking about the piece you through away.  To Dr. Zeller’s  thank you for not giving up on Alex’s ASD and finding a way to make the implant possible.  To all the other specialist in ICU, the ER and all the departments that have helped us and cared through the years, THANK YOU!!!

The meaning of Valentines is to show how you care about those who are special in their life.  To the Doctor’s you helped me keep my special little men thank you.

To my Family and Children, Thank you for caring and understanding that most of the last 7 years has been spent in keeping them alive.  My love and gratitude to Stephanie for being so wonderful and helpful, to Emily for caring and growing up way to soon to make your brothers special in all ways and to Barry, thank you for giving up your dreams of the perfect little brothers and loving them just the same and showing them how to be tough…  I love you all
