Winter Storm Warning

Well its Friday and I have been really bad about writing this week.  However, I thought you might appreciate what a parent/business owner does.  Today at 8 am I meet with the Principal and 5 our members of the school to discuss my 2 sons behavior at school and the plan to help them learn more and act appropriately.  Not that the boys are “bad”, but the do have Down’s and we are having some issues with over stimulations and boundaries.  Then as we were gettting ready to leave the school we found out the district was releasing early because of an incoming storm… So we, my husband and I, hurried to the grocery store and pharmacy.  Next we headed off to  the Middle School to pick up one of our sons.  Then we ran by the store and picked up a game table for the boys.  Then it was off to elementary school one to pick up the twins. That in itself was interesting since one crawled under the table and wouldn’t come out.  Next it was back to the house to switch cars so we could pick up the last child at another school, go pick up the game table and then go to the bank. While all that was going on, we received a call from our Daughter in Texas who was having a melt down and got her taken care of.  Finally it was off to the house, switch the cars back again and then I ran to do one last errand.  While doing that, the hospital called to let me know to be at the hospital on Monday at 6am.  So finally, I’m home.  I have opened my email, not all of it yet, and taken care of a bit of business and now here I am..

So how do you balance it all?  did I mention I’m having a party tonight for a Jewelry company… How exciting can life get? have a great weekend.

When the grades come in.

Published by admin under Down's Syndrome, Parenthood

Well, what a day!  My sons were sent home today after getting into trouble…  One bit a girl and the other scratched a girl.  The question for me is why?  They both have Down’s syndrome, so I have no idea why… Then my smart son came home with his progress report and had a “D” and 2 “C’s”!! Can you still see the steam rising off my head!!  Then child number 4 comes in with his progress report…Not too bad, except for can’t keep his mouth shut..

I sent out 4 emails to teachers today.  Just waiting for the response…  Parenthood is not for sissy’s…

By the way anyone interested in being a guest on the show, please feel free to email me any time…

When God gives you a Gift!

Published by admin under Down's Syndrome, Parenthood

Today, I had a conversation with a new mom.  She gave birth recently to a little boy with Down’s syndrome.  She had no idea before giving birth that she was having this special little boy.  Right now she is overwhelmed by the doctor appointments and the differences in the way he is compared to his older sister.  A mutual friend gave her my name and email to talk to.. It seems that since I have identical twins with Down’s I might know something.  Of course my down’s boys were number 8 and 9 on the hit parade, but my specialty seems to be special needs children.  I often wonder why God trusted me with these two angels.  Does he really think I can do this job?  Does he think I can really raise these two special boys to be an example to the rest of the world?  I don’t know… There are days I wish they were more like their older bother by a minute who is normal, but on the other side of the coin are they normal and he is special?  I really don’t know.

What I do know or hope is that God gave me the greatest gift in the world Triplets that lived!  After multiple surgeries and multiple hospitalizations they are alive.  So I would like to say thank you for giving me a gift that I don’t always appreciate, but dearly love.  And for giving me the opportunity to show the world that my boys are special!! and always will be no matter what anyone says…

When you can’t be with the one’s you love!

Published by admin under Diet, Down's Syndrome, Parenthood

Today I got a call from my daughter who just felt terrible.  Poor thing is all the way in Texas and I’m up here in Maine. So the question is how do I get to her or her to me… Just can’t!! She has a boyfriend to help take care of her and to be truthful, neither of us can really afford to go the 2000 miles… so now I get to listen to her on the phone as I try to be mom…

Then there was the text message from my son, who just recently blew out the engine of his 2nds truck.  The first one wasn’t cool enough and a friend wrecked it while trying to move.  My solution is to sell the old truck and buy a new motor from the junk yard… Then get a job at any place, that will hire him.  Someplace like McDonald’s, Sonic or Taco Bell.  I was informed they don’t pay enough.  All I was thinking was low gas costs and reasonable sleep at night.  How the world has changed.  What it boils down to is he wants $1,500 for a new motor from an auto shop.. Sorry it isn’t happening.  Then part 2 of the story is he has found an ‘08 truck he can buy new for $250 a month.  With what down and with what job to back it up…  sorry it isn’t happening either.

Finally, one of my triplets bit a little girl at school today.  No one knows why including him… He has Down’s Syndrome and sees the world in a much different light.  So we will now go to school for a meeting to determine how to give him services, while protecting the other children… I don’t see this going well, but maybe I will be surprised.

FYI:  I am thinking very seriously about doing a weekend show on weightloss, if anyone would like to participate, let me know… thanks

Making love to the Computer

Hi All,

Well it’s Friday and I have made love to my computer so much this week.  Every night it was a new conference.  I guess I have made the transition from SAHM(stay at home mom) to WAHM.

I would like to take a few minutes though to share with you a couple of people and causes that really speak to me.  The first I have mentioned a few times already, but I have no fear of repeating myself.  Nicole Pereira is working on 400 scrapbook packs for Children and some adults in the San Diego, Ca area.  The link to Nicole is www.itchintoscrap.com.  Please see if you can help her and the kids out…Another, is one that was just recently brought to my  attention.  As some of you may know, I have triplets and two of those are identical with Down’s Syndrome.  On one of the groups I belong to this site was mentioned, http://reecesrainbow.com/angeltree. htm  This site tries to SAVE children with Down’s syndrome from various countries in South America, Asia and Eastern Europe.  These children are pushed away and left to survive just because the have Down’s Syndrome.  I can’t imagine my world with out my two Monsters, please if you can help any of these children, I would appreciate it. As little as a dollar could make a big difference.

Next week on the show, we will be talking about Making 2008 better for your business, we will as always have a recipe, grocery tips and information on the Foundation of the week. so please stop by and become part of our Family here at the Work At Home Family Talk Radio program…

One more company! Tupperware

Working on a radio program and writing a daily blog has really made me a lot more organized.  It has also brought me into contact with a number of work at home professionals that are very good at what they do.  Some of these folks are so good at what they do and offer, that I have now joined one of their business programs.  So why is this so bad?  Because my husband is almost afraid to let me talk to anyone else for fear I will join up.

Last week I spoke to Misty Kearns with Tupperware and was so impressed by what she had done in the last 18 months, that I decided I wanted to get involved with Tupperware again.  So if you want to see me shine, you can go to :  http://www.my.tupperware.com/sandraweber  I really do love the product.  I believe so much in the Tupperware business opportunity I really do love what they have and I just can’t believe the new colors and products.

Ok, so enough of the commercial.  I just wanted to mention that the next Program, available December 3rd, will feature Nicole Pereira with Itchin To Scrap.  Nicole will be talking about her business and sharing some ideas for Christmas, as well as telling us more about her charity benefiting some special children out in San Diego, CA

Also, for those that have written to me and asked about Alex, we just got the word today that the CT did not show a tumor or any sign of Cancer.  So we well be having a great weekend around here.  I even got a note from someone who wanted to send Alex a gift.  Instead of that, if anyone would like to do something nice for Alex, please donate a toy to Toys for Tots or pick an Angel off the Angel Tree with the Salvation Army. Even though Alex won’t get it personally, some other child who needs it more will.  Thanks for a wonderful week and I look forward to talking with you all on Monday

Alex and all things Medical

Published by admin under Down's Syndrome, Parenthood

One of the nice things about working at home is being there for our children.  My son Alex, is 7 years old and as much as I hate to think about it, is very ill.  Today, we went to a nearby hospital for a CT scan.  After driving for 1 hour and Alex signing repeatedly that he wanted ice cream, we finally made it to the parking lot and into the hospital.  We went downstairs to Radiology and then off to the recovery area.  Alex was going to need a little sedation to keep him still for the 10 minute test.  While he was out, the plan was to draw blood so it wouldn’t be an issue after he woke up.  Alex is not an easy stick.

The resident was a nice young man, who had gone to Med School in Philadelphia and I’m sure knows his stuff.  However, after sticking my son 3 times, I suggested they just give Alex some go-go juice to relax him.  Then when he was asleep and his veins were dialated put the hep-lock in his arm.  They could then set up the IV and give him the contrast he would need for the test.  So guess what they did, yep Mom did it again!  I should have gone to Med School.  Anyway, I walked Alex over to the CT room, held him while they gave him the gas.  Once asleep, I laid him down, kissed him on the cheek and then returned to the waiting area.  Twenty minutes later, they brought me back to recovery.  My little man was awake.  He wanted to be dressed, to put on his coat and to get out of there ASAP.   The staff was wonderful and I think they were surprised at how easy we were with the whole situation.  I guess just too much experience.

So to make a long story short, my son got his ice cream and a cheeseburger with a sprite.  Now we wait for the results.  I guess the thing about this story is please don’t assume you know how things are about everyone elses problems or whine about how bad your life is.  Alex is now 7 1/2 years old.  He weighed 2lb13oz at birth and spent 28 days in the hospital NICU before coming home.  He is now followed by 5 specialists and he has been in Dallas Chidren’s Hospital as well as Cincinnati Children’s.  Alex has had atleast 6 or 7 major surgeries and is now on the Liver Transplant list at Boston Children’s.  Please, be greatful for whatever you have in your life or whoever you have in your life.  Why don’t you reach out and touch someone today. Pick up the phone or email someone to let them know you care.  Have a great day.
